Join an elite group of drivers hauling some of America’s most valuable and hazardous resources. Family-owned since 2012, LGT offers a stable and supportive work environment, and we're always looking for safety-driven people to join our team. In this Q&A, we’ll answer some of the most common questions about our truck driver positions to help you decide if LGT is the right fit for you.
Q: Why choose LGT?
A: LGT puts its drivers first, offering well-maintained equipment and 24/7 dispatch for support. Drivers are treated as partners and have many opportunities to grow and advance within the company. You are not just a truck number here; we know you by name.
Q: What positions are currently open?
A: We are hiring OTR drivers for both company and lease purchase roles. We offer lease purchase of late model Peterbilt 579 and/or Freightliner Cascadia tractors with the Cummins X15 engine. Regional and local positions may become available from time to time.
Q:Where do LGT drivers run?
A: Our drivers operate across the lower 48 states. We have eight terminals throughout the U.S. which are Omaha, NE; Hastings, NE; Baytown, TX; Toledo, OH; Jackson, TN; Azusa, CA; West Sacramento, CA; and Timmonsville, SC.
Q: What do drivers transport?
A: LGT specializes in transporting tanker specific materials including Cryogenic Liquids, Carbon Dioxide, Hydrogen, Specialty Gases, Anhydrous Ammonia, Propane, Butane, and Liquid Fertilizer.
Q: What can drivers expect in terms of pay?
A: Pay depends on several factors, including the type of position (company, lease purchase, local, regional, or OTR). Contact us, and we’ll provide the details of the pay package for the role you're considering.
Q: What benefits does LGT offer?
A: Our company drivers get health, dental, and vision insurance with low monthly premiums, starting on Day 1. We also provide company-paid life insurance, long-term disability, and a 401K with a 4% company match.
Q: What is the home time policy?
Local Drivers: Home daily (some layovers may still be needed).
Regional Drivers: Home weekly.
OTR Drivers: Out three weeks at a time, with one week off.
Q: What are the requirements to drive for LGT?
A Class A CDL with Tanker and *Hazmat Endorsements.
A valid TWIC Card.
At least two (2) years of verifiable over-the-road (OTR) experience.
No more than 3 minor moving violations in the last 3 years.
No major preventable accidents in the past 5 years.
No prior violations of Federal Highway Drug & Alcohol Regulations.
* Hastings regional drivers hauling liquid fertilizer are not required to have a Hazmat Endorsement.
Q: Is tanker experience required?
A: Tanker experience is a plus, not a requirement.
Q: What is the hiring process like?
A: After you submit an application, one of our recruiters will contact you to discuss your needs, answer any questions, and determine if we're a good match. If everything aligns, we'll proceed with the screening process and schedule your orientation.
Q: What can I expect from orientation and training?
A: Orientation takes place at our headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. During this time, you’ll complete training modules and meet with various teams, including payroll, billing, maintenance, and dispatch. You'll also cover important topics such as PPE, logs, paperwork, benefits, accident reporting, and permits.
At the end of orientation, you’ll be paired with a trainer. Our driver trainers won’t ride along with you; instead, they’ll meet you at loading and unloading sites in their pickup trucks. Training typically lasts several weeks, and you’ll work with your trainer until you both feel comfortable with your progress.
