How to Prepare for International Roadcheck on May 13-15, 2025

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's annual International Roadcheck will take place from May 13-15. This 72-hour inspection is designed to ensure the safety of commercial motor vehicles and their drivers. During this year's event, inspectors will focus on the driver’s record of duty status (RODS) and the vehicle’s tires.

"During the driver portion of an inspection, inspectors check the driver’s documents, license or commercial driver’s license, medical examiner’s certificate and skill performance certificate (if applicable), record of duty status, Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse status (in the U.S.), seat belt usage, and alcohol and/or drug impairment. During the vehicle portion, inspectors will check tires’ tread depth and proper inflation. They will also be on the lookout for tire damage, such as air leaks, tread separation, cuts, bulges, sidewall damage and improper repairs."

Here are eight tips to help you prepare for International Roadcheck:

  • Review your company’s policies and make sure your Record of Duty Status is complete, accurate, and up to date. Know your HOS limits, take proper breaks, and never falsify logs.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections and ensure that everything is working properly.
  • Ensure your driver records, including commercial driver's license, medical certificate, and hours of service records, are up-to-date.
  • Verify that your cargo is properly secured and within weight limits.
  • Keep vehicle maintenance records up-to-date to ensure that your vehicle is current on inspections.
  • Check for proper inflation, tread depth, and any signs of damage like air leaks, bulges, cuts, or sidewall issues.
  • Check lights, brakes, windshield wipers, coupling devices, suspension, and all safety equipment.
  • Keep all necessary documentation, including permits, registrations, and insurance papers on hand and readily available.

By following these tips and regularly inspecting vehicles, drivers can ensure that their commercial motor vehicles are safe and well-prepared not only for the upcoming International Roadcheck but also for future trips.
